Welcome To Education Watch

Like many people, I am increasingly concerned about the public lack of understanding about science issues, compounding by the misrepresentations of science in the media. There are many websites which address these issues such as http://forums.randi.org and www.badscience.net . The latter is the brainchild of the Guardian science columnist, Ben Goldacre.

The root cause of people falling for dubious scientific claims is surely due to the fact that they have received a poor science education. If quackery, woos and outright frauds are to be eliminated we need a scientifically knowledgable population. The responsibility for that lies with our education system.

The purpose of this blog is to examine our education system and determine whether or not it is succeeding.

I work in science education but do not wish to say more as I may express views which conflict with received wisdom (ie the opinions of my management).
